WELCOME TO THE SFBALEES PAGE. The San Francisco Bay Area Law Enforcement Emerald Society is an organization primarily of sworn law enforcement personnel from the San Francisco bay area. The group takes pride in the contributions made to law enforcement by those of Irish descent. One fourth of the more than 16,500 officers who have given their lives to protect society have been of Irish descent. The organization was founded in 1997 by several Irish American officers who worked devotedly at organizing and enlisting new members. The by laws were adopted in 1998 and the local group was formally accepted into membership by the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies (NCLEES) in 1998. The NCLEES has over 30,000 members nationwide, with NYPD being the largest group at a membership of 12,000. SFBALEES has the largest membership of any Emerald Society west of the Mississippi. SFBALEES holds monthly board meetings, quarterly general membership meetings and several social events a year. In addition, the group has participated in the San Francisco St. Patrick's Day parade a well as parades in New York, Dublin, Cork, and Galway, Ireland. SFBALEES also takes part in the State and National Police Officer Memorial ceremonies each year in May. They are active in supporting charitable causes in the bay area and supporting youth activities. SFBALEES hopes to establish a scholarship fund in the near future.
